Fixing complex frame workpieces on a 3D welding table relies on reasonable layout of modular fixtures and multi-point supporting positioning. Complex frames feature multiple bending sections, intersecting profiles and high requirements for dimensional symmetry, which cannot be secured simply by single-point clamping. Follow standardized steps to guarantee assembly precision and avoid deformation during welding.
First, lay out reference benchmarks according to the drawing. Place key positioning points of the frame onto the grid hole network of the 3D welding table. Use positioning pins to lock main datum surfaces, and arrange adjustable support blocks under beam sections to prevent sagging caused by the workpiece’s own weight. Distribute support points evenly instead of concentrating supports on partial areas.
Second, build a three-dimensional fixture combination. Utilize angle brackets, vertical supports and pull clamps to realize horizontal, vertical and inclined positioning. For asymmetric frames or three-dimensional space structures, employ multi-directional clamping to restrict displacement in X, Y and Z axes. Avoid one-sided excessive clamping force, which may push the frame out of tolerance before welding starts.
Third, implement pre-fitting and dimension verification before tightening all clamps. Adjust fixture positions slightly to calibrate diagonal sizes, flatness and perpendicularity of the frame. Do not fully lock every fixture at the very beginning. Reserve minor adjustment space for fine-tuning until all dimensional indicators meet requirements.
Fourth, control clamping strategy to reduce welding thermal deformation. Add auxiliary supports at thin-walled profiles and stress-concentrated joints. Avoid clamping right next to welding seams. Carry out segmented symmetrical welding, and loosen partial clamps appropriately after welding to release thermal stress gradually.
After finishing welding and natural cooling, remove clamps in sequence rather than detaching all fixtures at once. Inspect the finished frame for dimensional deviation. Summarize this fixture layout scheme and save it for repeated production of the same workpiece, greatly shortening setup time for subsequent batches.
All matched modular accessories including positioning pins, quick clamps and supports should comply with D16 or D28 hole standards to ensure stable installation and interchangeability for different frame styles.
